Big Blue House

Big Blue House came together in late 1999, primarily as a Studio backing band for Larden Green Studios here in Nantwich, South Cheshire. We soon realised that we had a mutual respect for each other and Blues music in general and decided to take the outfit on the road. We have two original members left from those days, Al Dean on bass & vocals, and drummer Steve Shoebridge.
Three years ago we recruited young Guitarist James Harrison, who also delivers stunning vocals. His passion for the blues is evident both in his singing and playing despite his relatively young age of 24, “you just want this guy to be good, and he is” Blues Matters 2004.
After working as a three piece for the first 5 years of our existence, we thought it would be time for a change, especially when we came across 23 year old John Gunstone, who is an exceptional piano player also turning his hand to the trusty old Hammond when required.
Over the years we have backed several notable American bluesmen and have done two nationwide tours with Chicago’s James Wheeler, who was Otis Rush’s guitarist for many years. During James’s first visit we recorded several tracks for the Paul Jones Radio2 show, that can be heard on the band’s website www.bigbluehouse.info along with some of our own material, plus all the latest band information.
We are just finishing our fourth album which is mainly original along with a couple of well worked covers. This one has taken us quite a while because of the need to re-record most of it, so that we can include new man John, who adds a different dimension to our previous work. Our material now reveals influences from the swing of Louis Jordan, to the jazzy blues of Robben Ford, giving a nod to numerous Blues and Soul artists on the way.
This year sees us visiting several Blues Festivals around the country including The Great British R&B Festival Colne, where we are making our third appearance on the British Blues stage on Saturday 26th Aug at 3.45pm. Our ultimate aim is to raise the profile of the band with the new album and work on getting our music across to new audiences by taking in venues we haven’t previously done. Our live show consists of original material and several classic and contemporary covers that will appeal to people who appreciate well arranged numbers, delivered in an un-cluttered way. We also travel with a high quality sound and lighting rig, (where needed) to ensure the band is portrayed at it’s best. So come along and check us out, you won’t be disappointed!
